Derek is a multi-instrumentalist who plays every instrument taught at Formasters Academy — and more. He's an active performing musician and a member of several bands across Mauritius.

That gigging experience is exactly what shapes the academy's approach. Lessons aren't built around exams or rigid curricula — they're built around what actually works on stage. From counting in a band to handling stage nerves, from playing in time with a drummer to reading a room, students learn the craft the way it's practised in the real world.
